Our albums will always be released in Summer. – Hongki
The 5 member-flower boyband, FT Island made a comeback on 16th July with their 3rd album titled “Cross & Change”. The band is having their comeback performances on various music programmes.
Just like their album title, FT Island is working hard in their music to present a brand new image.
“The changes will be in terms of our music definitely. This album focuses on electronica, songs with bright melodies, making rock music even more enjoyable. It consists of 12 songs including the title track ‘Barae (I Hope)’.”
Members put in lots of effort to come up with this album of high standards, judging from its production and tone quality.
“We each have our own individual schedules. Time was tight as we can only make use of our free time for the album production. For my (Hongki) case especially, I wasn’t able to express my emotions well while recording the song “보내주기 (Send Away)” and was rather troubled by it. I even took some time off to meet up with the composers. Also, during the filming of our music videos, one of the prop mirrors broke. We wondered if these are signs telling us about the sale of our new album. Haha!”
Recently FT Island is busy having promotions in Asia rather than in Korea. It is difficult to endure the summer heat and they are also not used to taking some kinds of food initially.
“(Jaejin) This will be our third time to Thailand. The first time we went there, the weather was very hot and most of all, the food did not suit our appetite.
But now, we’re used to the warm weather in the country and we came to like their traditional food, Tom Yam Soup. This time, we’re really shocked to see so many fans gathering at the airport to welcome us even at such late hours.”
FT Island members excel individually in their own projects. Vocal Lee Hongki hosted on SBS Inkigayo, Jaejin did a musical and Minhwan received recognition as an actor through his sitcom.
“(Hongki) Minhwan enjoyed acting and he really put lots of hard work in it. Because of his acting, he became more matured and manly. Jaejin also showed lots of charisma on stage.”
When asked about their summer vacation plans, they replied, “Recently we went on a 3 days 1 night vacation with our CEO and other staff. It’s not even a 2 nights stay, it’s a 3 days 1 night stay! Even though it was short, it was a good break for us.”
They also pointed out that they’re close to other boy bands like 2PM and Shinee.
“Shinee’s Key. The first time we met, he greeted us as his senior and that left a deep impression. ‘Hello! I’m Shinee’s All-Rounded Key~’ Haha! That really was fun. We’re close with each other now too.”
As an idol rock group, FT Island also admires and respects Teddy from One Time.
As for the female artistes, Hongki likes Song Hyegyo. Following suit, Jaejin also recommended Kim Taehee. Indeed, they are the typical type of guys who like girls that are quiet and polite.
“If we can make a wish for this year, we would like to be the winner at the awards ceremony at the end of the year. Acting and other projects are important but what’s more important to us is our fans who have always been loving and supporting us and that made us strong. Please continue to support us in future too!”
