[INFO] You’re Beautiful” and “IRIS”, The drama battle

SBS’s You’re Beautiful is putting up a good fight against the blockbuster in the same time period, IRIS.

You’re Beautiful got off to a start on October 7 with a 9.2% rating (ABG Nielsen Media). However, when KBS’s IRIS premiered on the 14th, its numbers dropped to 7.5%. Considering IRIS’s hype and that its first episode rating was over 20%, this could have been predicted. As IRIS looks toward the 30% ratings mark, one suspected that You’re Beautiful would face falling ratings.

But a strange phenomenon occurred. Even with IRIS’s swift onslaught, You’re Beautiful’s ratings steadily grew. Its episode on October 29 rose to a 9% as it faced off against IRIS, which had received a top rating of 27.7%. Where did You’re Beautiful’s latent force come from?

You’re Beautiful’s secret for maintaining a safe level of popularity can be found in its solid mania viewership. As befits a drama about the growth of an idol group, the drama has plenty of appeal through casting young stars like Jang Geun-seok and Lee Hong-ki, as well as fresh faces like Jung Yong-hwa. From the makeup of the cast, mania status was understandable.

Park Shin-hye also attracted notice for her crossdressing role. As members of the fictional band A.N.JELL who sing the songs themselves, they are creating their own fandom phenomenon that resembles a real idol group. As such, it created a passionate viewer fanbase that was heavily populated by teenagers and young twentysomething women.

Also helping is the way that even with the drama’s strong sensibilities, it also has a solid structure. Writers Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran of Fantasy Couple, My Girl and other dramas have captured the new generation with their characteristic lighthearted style. On top of that, PD Hong Sung-chang directs with a witty touch. They were able to charm the young generation with trendy-drama features that haven’t been seen much in Korean dramas for a while.

In the early part of the broadcast, these parts were also detriments. Viewers weren’t able to easily adapt to the artistic style and editing, which recalled Japanese dramas. At the time, one rep from the production of You’re Beautiful said, “Until Episode 2 aired, there were a lot of viewers who felt that the drama’s style was awkward. However, after Episode 3 when the story settled in, those concerns were alleviated.”

One can easily see the fandom phenomenon for the drama when looking online at the forums. From the afternoon of the drama’s first broadcast, viewers posted messages in anticipation. Comments like “Today is a happy Wednesday, I can meet Jeremy [Lee Hong-ki]” and “Finally I can see Shin-woo [Jung Yong-hwa]” flooded the board. One poster who watched IRIS but transferred her interest to You’re Beautiful was met with a rash of welcome messages.

Discussion arose online regarding what fans could do to raise the ratings. After every episode airs, there’s a clear comparison between the online forum’s debate about the story development and IRIS’s forums. Seeing them in action, they seem less like earnest drama fans and more like the fan club of a real idol group. Ultimately, the fandom of You’re Beautiful doesn’t convey the feeling of merely “watching” the show, but can be understood better with the word “enthusing.”

The recent rise in the ratings corresponds to the drama’s melodramatic storyline coming into full swing. Chief producer Jo Nam-kook expressed his confidence: “Our drama has fierce support among female teenage students. Thanks to them, we’re better off than I’d feared and continuing to fight. If I could get my wish, I’d like to raise the ratings to about 13%, but in order to achieve that, we’ll need the support of thirtysomething women viewers, too. With the recent introduction of the melodramatic line, I don’t think that’s an unreasonable wish.”

Fan support has been ardent, to say the least, for the SBS drama You’re Beautiful and its young cast. The drama’s lead, Jang Geun-seok, had expressed feeling disappointment that the ratings remain lower than hoped for and that he’d felt responsible as the main cast member. In reaction, fans to jump into action to show their love of the drama.

As you may know by now, he’d written a message to that effect on the drama’s homepage last week, saying, “I wonder whether the reason for the ratings being lower than we thought may be because I’m not portraying the Hwang Tae-kyung character as fully as I could be. If not, maybe the drama isn’t receiving more love because of me as Jang Geun-seok.”

After learning this, Jang Geun-seok’s fan club mobilized both on- and offline in full force to show their overwhelming support. His fan club forum is overrun with supportive messages. Fans also got together and delivered the cast and crew a buffet meal on their film set, which served 100 people. (The photos above and below are from that buffet lunch on October 30.) They’ve also sent presents like vitamins and letters rooting on the production.

Jang expressed his gratitude, saying that he was cheered by all the support by fans who are “like eels who give me energy.” (Eels are relatively expensive and eaten with the belief that they give added energy and stamina.) He added, “I’ll do my best through the end with a grateful heart.” His co-stars Park Shin-hye, Lee Hong-ki, and Jung Yong-hwa said, “Thank you for loving our Geun-seok hyung.”

Meanwhile, on November 2, Lee Hong-ki wrote his own message which he posted on the drama’s website, asking for fans’ continued support. His message read, “Our You’re Beautiful team filmed on the weekend from morning till night. We began filming in September, and already two months have passed and the drama is half over. I feel the difficulty of the actors and staff as we see the drama air scenes we had shot the day before. Even with the tough schedule, as I see the staff who are always smiling and our truly praiseworthy lead actors Jang Geun-seok hyung, Shin-hye, and Yong-hwa, I feel really secure, and coming to the set is a lot of fun.”

He added, “After I finish shooting the drama as Jeremy, I will return to FT Island as Hong-ki, and I’m busy preparing for our concert on the 14th and 15th. I’m working hard on the drama too. Everyone, please give a lot of support to You’re Beautiful through the end.”

The drama has confirmed that it will end on the 26th with Episode 16. Note that this is NOT a cut-down of episodes, and I think the number is probably appropriate for this story. The production had left the door open in the beginning to extend the episodes to 20, but that was always going to be an option only if the drama proved to be a ratings hit.

Super Junior Eunhyuk has gave FT Island Jonghoon the nickname “Cutlass fish” on the show KBS Drama “Super Junior’s miracle” which will be aired on November 7th.

When talking about how becoming a singer affect your daily life, Jonghoon asked Eunhyuk “I want to gain weight” which Eunhyuk said “I have the same problem. Do you know any effective method for this ?”, Jonghoon then admited “I has tried to eat a lot of ramen before sleep but I cant gain weight at all”.

After hearing the answer, Eunhyuk had nod his head and said “So I will recommend a character to you. I was called ‘Anchovy’ ” and asked Jonghoon to choose one among the nickname “Anchovy, Cutlass fish, Flying fish”. Jonghoon said “I have seen Cutlass fish before”, thus choosing that nickname among the three which made everybody laughing.

Then Eunhyuk said to Jonghoon “I want to be a main MC like Leeteuk hyung” which Jonghoon answered “So let’s continue with your ‘Anchovy’ character and loose more weight than (you are) now”.

The show will be aired at 8.00PM on November 7th.

Who are the Kpop 91-ers sitting for college entrance exams this year?

The college entrance examination for 2010 will be coming up in 7 days on 12th November.

And for the college entrance examinations this year it will be for the 91-ers. And in the Kpop world, we also have many 91-ers like So Nyeo Shi Dae SeoHyun, 2NE1 CL, 2AM Jung JiWoon, SHINee MinHo and Key, FT Island Lee JaeJin, KARA Nicole and Goo Hara, 4Minute Jeon JiYoon and Heo GaYoon etc.

But not all of them will be sitting for the exams this time.

But there is high possibility that SNSD SeoHyun will not be taking the college entrance exams this year.

It was known that she is waiting for the results to her application for irregular applicants, and while she is doing so, she is also studying for her papers.

2NE1’s CL will also not be taking the exams as she is busy preparing for 2NE1’s upcoming full-length album. Hence there are no plans for her to take the exams.

DSP Media stated that there are no plans for KARA Nicole and Goo Hara to take the exams this year. This is because the girls are currently busy with their individual promotions and activities.

Other than them, the other 91-ers like 2AM Jung JiWoon, SHINee MinHo and Key, FT Island Lee JaeJin, 4MInute Jeon JiYoon and Heo GaYoon will be taking the exams this time.

BEAST members Yoon DooJoon, Jang HyunSeung, Lee GiGwang and Son DongWoon will be sitting for the exams.

This year, we also have special applicants for entering college like So Nyeo Shi Dae Yuri and Big Bang SeungRi who both got through to study for theatrics and movie course in Central University.

Also singer Son DamBi has been accepted for GyeongHee Uni’s postmodern music course as announced on the 4th.

PS: It has just been confirmed that SeoHyun has been accepted into the same course as SeungRi and Yuri.

[The showcase was initially planned this year (for their 2009 Asian Tour), but it got postponed to next year instead.]

I’m proud of them. They’re really spreading their wings wide, at least in Asia ^__^

FT Island, Will Hold Concert As Planned

FT Island will hold their concert as planned despite the increasing number of swine flu cases.

FT Island will be holding their concert at Seoul’s Jangchung Gymnasium, on 14th and 15th November. South Korea’s government has declared red alert against swine flu. Despite that, FT Island’s management company, FnC Music will work together with the event organiser, to increase the precautionary measures to fight against swine flu.

Besides the basic hand washing facilities, the other precautionary measures include setting up of temperature scanners at the entrances and exits of the concert venue, so that people with body temperatures higher than normal will not be admitted into the hall. In addition, a disinfection tunnel will be set up at the entrance so that everyone who enters the venue will be free from viruses.

They will also make sure that medical service is readily available so that any suspect cases can receive checkup and treatment right away.

FT Island revealed that, “It will be a pity if we do not carry on with the great performance due to swine flu. Even if the costs have to increase, we hope that everyone can still enjoy our concert without worrying, as we have set up precautionary measures.”

It has been quite some time since the members of FT Island are coming back together on the same stage to do a performance for their fans. Lee Hongki is currently filming for the SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful“, while Song Seunghyun is active in various variety programmes. Lee Jaejin, Choi Jonghoon and Choi Minhwan are doing activities for their unit group, FT.triple.

FT.triple Reveals Their Hidden Talent

“We’re just like an egg of FT Island. We will do our best to become the framework of FT Island.”

An interview was conducted with members of FT Island’s sub-unit group, FT.triple, consisting of Lee Jaejin, Choi Minhwan and Choi Jonghoon. They started the interview by revealing the resolution of the band. The 3 members are currently doing promotions for their “Two Date” album, which is part of the “Double Date” 2CD album that was released earlier on 26th October. FT Island’s vocal Lee Hongki is currently filming the drama “You’re Beautiful“, while member Song Seunghyun is active in various variety programmes. FT.triple revealed to Sports Donga on the day following the release of their album that, “Don’t think of us as a separate group of FT Island. Think of us as an extension group instead.”

The biggest difference between FT Island and FT.triple is the vocal. Lee Jaejin, who has been playing the bass all along, will be holding the vocal position in FT.triple. Why You’re Beautiful isn’t crumbling against IRIS

SBS’s You’re Beautiful is putting up a good fight against the blockbuster in the same time period, IRIS.

You’re Beautiful got off to a start on October 7 with a 9.2% rating (ABG Nielsen Media). However, when KBS’s IRIS premiered on the 14th, its numbers dropped to 7.5%. Considering IRIS’s hype and that its first episode rating was over 20%, this could have been predicted. As IRIS looks toward the 30% ratings mark, one suspected that You’re Beautiful would face falling ratings.

But a strange phenomenon occurred. Even with IRIS’s swift onslaught, You’re Beautiful’s ratings steadily grew. Its episode on October 29 rose to a 9% as it faced off against IRIS, which had received a top rating of 27.7%. Where did You’re Beautiful’s latent force come from?

Maintaining popularity with mania viewers (i.e., a cult following)

You’re Beautiful’s secret for maintaining a safe level of popularity can be found in its solid mania viewership. As befits a drama about the growth of an idol group, the drama has plenty of appeal through casting young stars like Jang Geun-seok and Lee Hong-ki, as well as fresh faces like Jung Yong-hwa. From the makeup of the cast, mania status was understandable.

Park Shin-hye also attracted notice for her crossdressing role. As members of the fictional band A.N.JELL who sing the songs themselves, they are creating their own fandom phenomenon that resembles a real idol group. As such, it created a passionate viewer fanbase that was heavily populated by teenagers and young twentysomething women.

Also helping is the way that even with the drama’s strong sensibilities, it also has a solid structure. Writers Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran of Fantasy Couple, My Girl and other dramas have captured the new generation with their characteristic lighthearted style. On top of that, PD Hong Sung-chang directs with a witty touch. They were able to charm the young generation with trendy-drama features that haven’t been seen much in Korean dramas for a while.

In the early part of the broadcast, these parts were also detriments. Viewers weren’t able to easily adapt to the artistic style and editing, which recalled Japanese dramas. At the time, one rep from the production of You’re Beautiful said, “Until Episode 2 aired, there were a lot of viewers who felt that the drama’s style was awkward. However, after Episode 3 when the story settled in, those concerns were alleviated.”

Fandom phenomenon on the online forums

One can easily see the fandom phenomenon for the drama when looking online at the forums. From the afternoon of the drama’s first broadcast, viewers posted messages in anticipation. Comments like “Today is a happy Wednesday, I can meet Jeremy [Lee Hong-ki]” and “Finally I can see Shin-woo [Jung Yong-hwa]” flooded the board. One poster who watched IRIS but transferred her interest to You’re Beautiful was met with a rash of welcome messages.

Discussion arose online regarding what fans could do to raise the ratings. After every episode airs, there’s a clear comparison between the online forum’s debate about the story development and IRIS’s forums. Seeing them in action, they seem less like earnest drama fans and more like the fan club of a real idol group. Ultimately, the fandom of You’re Beautiful doesn’t convey the feeling of merely “watching” the show, but can be understood better with the word “enthusing.”

The recent rise in the ratings corresponds to the drama’s melodramatic storyline coming into full swing. Chief producer Jo Nam-kook expressed his confidence: “Our drama has fierce support among female teenage students. Thanks to them, we’re better off than I’d feared and continuing to fight. If I could get my wish, I’d like to raise the ratings to about 13%, but in order to achieve that, we’ll need the support of thirtysomething women viewers, too. With the recent introduction of the melodramatic line, I don’t think that’s an unreasonable wish.”

A couple things: The article gives too much credence to the whole demographics issue, in my opinion, because I resist the whole rationale that you can market something to an entire category of people on the sole basis of a few criteria like “idols” and “young actors.” I understand the need to classify viewership into definable groups for the purpose of articles like this, in analyzing drama trends, and I’m sure the overall tendency of youngsters to prefer one type of drama over another is true. I just draw the line at overly simplistic arguments about why something appeals to a person purely based on age or gender.

Frankly, I think that You’re Beautiful’s main appeal is NOT actually its youthful subject matter or hot young stars, but the fact that it’s just well-written, period. If anything, I think that the subject of idols and pop stars may actually be turning people off the drama before giving the writing a chance. Those who recognize the drama’s strengths may skew young because those are the people who would give an idol drama a chance in the first place, but I seriously doubt that the cast or idol setting are the main reasons fans are so passionate. (I’ve read lots of comments (here and elsewhere) about why this drama is similar to stuff like Boys Before Flowers or My Fair Lady, but personally, I think this drama is nothing like those two — not in tone or humor or story. Those two had appeal despite bad writing; You’re Beautiful’s charm is enhanced by solid writing.)

Lee Hongki, who is playing the role of A.N.Jell’s drummer Jeremy in SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful”, returns to FT Island as a vocal.

As the drummer of flowerboy idol band A.N.Jell in “You’re Beautiful”, Lee Hongki is now back to his original team FT Island to prepare for their upcoming nationwide concert tour.

FT Island will be holding their nationwide concert tour, starting 14th and 15th November, at Seoul’s Jangchung Gymnasium, followed by 8 other cities in the country. FT.triple made a comeback on KBS 2TV Music Bank on 30th October, with their title song “Love Letter“.

In FT.triple, Lee Jaejin, who has been in charge of bass and vocal all along, will now be in charge of guitar and vocal. Following the unique music path of FT Island, a new boyband will be debuting.
This group is none other than FT Island’s unit group, FT.triple, who is releasing their album and starting their promotional activities.

FT.triple is formed by the following 3 FT Island members, namely, Choi Jonghoon (piano), Lee Jaejin (vocal & bass) and Choi Minhwan (drums). They will be showing a different image from FT Island.

With Lee Jaejin’s warm and soothing vocals, their title song “Love Letter” is receiving lots of attention the moment its teaser was released. Their music video was also filmed earlier in Cebu, Philippines.

It seems like SBS weekly drama ‘You’re Beautiful / You’re Handsome’ is becoming more popular as the series’ OST album is on the music market, causing a scene.

The OST album, having been released on October 14 2009, has already produced over 20,000 copies due to the amount of praise it has been getting in the public.

Not only that, the publisher of the album believes that album sales can reach over 15,000 since more orders are steadily coming in.

‘You’re Handsome’ OST album is currently recieving good response ever since album sales were release on Hanteo charts. Not only that the song has been rising on popular charts such as Bugs and Mnet. No wonder the album is getting a good response from the audience.

FT Island Choi JongHoon has recently further blown up criticisms against him on his minihompy.
He referred to the incident between him and KARA Park GyuRi on MBC ‘SaeBaGwi’ aired on 17th October. On the show, Choi JongHoon was introduced as the “pretty boy acknowledged by all” and then the MCs said, “This is the concept similar to that of Park Gyuri. What do you think about Park GyuRi?”
With that he faced Park GyuRi and said, “That person’s personality is a little frivolous, my personality is that I’m honest and straightforward.”

Guess what happens next.

Netizens then broke into hot debate saying, “No matter what, she is 2 years his senior, such a comment is a little too inappropriate”, “Such words said on broadcast is a little too much, like he did not think through what he said at all” etc.

The "Double Date" album that is releasing in October, will include a repackage album with new songs under 'One Date' and their unit group FT Triple's songs under 'Two Date'.
FT Island's "Cross & Change" repackage album titled "One Date" includes 3 new songs. One of their new songs that was revealed earlier, 'Lie', received good response and is also gaining lots of attention.
'Lie' talks about a sad love story between two lovers who have broke up and that the love and separation between the two were all lies. FT Island will be revealing an unique group FT Triple comprising of members Choi JongHoon, Lee JaeJin and Choi MinHwan. And the teaser video to title song to the unique group ‘Love Letter’ will be revealed on 19th October.
In the teaser video, Lee JaeJin will be in charge of vocal and guitar, and member Choi JongHoon will be playing on the piano. And Choi MinHwan will be in charge of the rhythm in the band.
The MV to the song was filmed in Cebu in Philippines. The full version to the MV will be revealed on 26th October.

FT Island’s unit group “FT Triple“, formed by Choi Jonghoon, Lee Jaejin and Choi Minhwan, will be releasing a teaser video of their title song “Love Letter” at their official homepage and other online music sites such as MNet on 19th October.

In this teaser video, Lee Jaejin, who has been in charge of the bass and vocal all these while, will now be in charge of the guitar and vocal. Choi Jonghoon also has new challenges in playing the piano instead of the guitar. Choi Minhwan will be playing the drums, something which cannot be left out from a band.

The music video of their title song “Love Letter” was filmed recently at Cebu, Philippines. Plans for aero filming were aborted due to the bad weather. Their 4 days 3 nights filming schedule was shortened due to the storm, and they had to rush the filming within 2 days. The full version of FT Triple’s music video will be revealed on 26th October.

On the other hand, Lee Hongki’s role as ”Jeremy” in “You’re Beautiful” is also successful.

[Interview] 091014 FT Island, Attends Actor School For A Manly Performance (MaxMovie Part 2)

Just like the title “Men’s Stories”, are you preparing a sensational show for us?

Jaejin: We’re in the midst of preparations now. It’s a secret so we cannot reveal anything yet. We’re also preparing for a big event for the first time.

As what we’ve heard, is it through that all of you are attending actor school?

Minhwan: It’s a secret. How did the rumour came out?

Jaejin: (looking puzzled) Who told you? Actually, we are attending actor school. We want to do a manly performance, so we’re working hard and of course, putting our words into action. We really want to show the manly sides of us, which we have not done it so far.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if all the members exchange their positions in the band and perform?

Minhwan: We really want to give it a try. I watched the Japanese band L’arc-en-ciel’s performance some time back, it was really cool.

Jonghoon: Which instrument would you like to play?

Minhwan: Guitar.

Jaejin: Well, for me, just tell me what to do and I’ll do it. (laughs) We have actually been practising playing other instruments, it’s just that we didn’t have the chance. Minhwan can play the guitar well, Seunghyun is also (turns his head to look at Seunghyun) good in doing many other things. Jonghoon has the feel of a vocalist. (looks at Jonghoon) Why don’t you show us?

Jonghoon: (at a loss) We’ll just leave it like this now. I’ll show it at the concert. (laughs)

Please don’t be like that. Show us something please.

Jaejin: (looks at Jonghoon and laughs) You’re caught!

Jonghoon: (completely at a loss, and rejecting using hand gestures) It’s not like that. Really cannot.

Jaejin paused for a while when talking about Seunghyun’s playing skills, is it because he joined the band later and lack of practice?

Minhwan: It’s definitely not like that. Seunghyun’s concept was originally like this. A concept whereby the members got to keep up with him. (laughs)

Jaejin: That’s right. In fact, Seunghyun is a friend who can rap well and has outstanding abilities.

So, will we be able to see solo stages at the concert?

Jaejin: Well, since we have already prepared something special…

Minhwan: Actually, there won’t be any solo stages. We are preparing a special stage though.

Have you all been practising other things to bring out members’ individual charm then?

Jaejin: I am doing lots of singing practice for this concert. Besides Hongki and Seunghyun, I am also working hard in singing. I’m thinking of singing for our fans at the concert.

Minhwan: I’m doing some liaising to introduce a some new faces to our fans. It’s a new group. They are also our friends.

Jonghoon: Is it a female group?

Minhwan: No. A male group.

Jonghoon: Aish, then I’m not interested. (laughs)

Seunghyun: It’s my first concert stage in Korea, so I’m practising a lot. I’m also doing lots of preparations so as to show the best side of myself at the concert.

Jonghoon: Since the concert title is “Men’s Stories”, we want to show some manly and charismatic sides of ourselves. We’re also thinking of exposing ourselves, if the fans want.

So now we have a preview of the members exposing themselves at the concert. All of you must have been doing lots of exercise.

Minhwan: We have a lot of fitness equipment in our dorm. Sometimes if we are bored, we’ll spend time doing exercise. But, in fact, we do not exercise regularly due to our busy schedules.

Hongki couldn’t join us today due to his busy drama filming schedule as well.
Since he’s not around, is there anything you would like to say?

Minhwan: Hongki-hyung started exercising when his drama filming started. Hmm.. How should I say? He was over-doing it. Even when he’s walking, he exerts strength in his arms and walk…, and when he’s exercising, he lets out groaning sounds. I hope he doesn’t do that.(laughs) I’ll get goosebumps.

Jonghoon: Sometimes, even in dramas, he walks with stiff arms. We’re embarrassed of that, Hongki.

Seunghyun: I’ll do a video letter for him.
Dear Hongki-hyung, let’s share clothes. Since we are members living under one roof, there will be times when I wear your clothes by mistake. There isn’t a need to say “take it off”, right? [Interview] 091014 FT Island, Upgraded From Flowerboy Idols To Men

Everyone sees FT Island as an idol group with appearance and wit. However, they are actually different from the common idol groups.

'Idol groups' usually dance, whereas FT Island goes on stage with their guitars, bass and drums.

Idol groups in general, provide laughter to the viewers on variety shows. But on the other hand, FT Island lets the audience listen to their music.

Curiously, people only recognize them as an idol group, but the fact is, they do not have much chance to showcase their ability to the public.

Responding to this, FT Island is not hasty in proving themselves.
They said, "Someday, we will show our abilities." They are not trying to deny the "idol group" title forcibly. FT Island's concept was originally like this, to develop from debut as a 'music idol band' instead of an idol group.

Having said that, the band is currently preparing for their third nationwide concert tour. "Men's Stories" is the title of their concert. They are not doing this abruptly, but rather, they are showing everyone how much they have changed and improved. Their Men's Stories will be known at the upcoming concert.

So what kind of stories will there be at the concert? Maxticket has uploaded FT Island’s interview clips for viewing on 14th October. (Due to drama filming schedules, vocal Lee Hongki was unable to join us at the interview)

All of you are preparing for your third nationwide concert tour, right?

Jaejin: Yes, it's already our third nationwide tour and we're going to meet our fans once again. Of course, we're doing lots of preparation now. Though we would like to share with you what we have prepared right now but

Minhwan: Well, it must be a great preparation then? (laughs)

Jaejin: Of course! We're preparing something big. It will be a performance which you have not seen before at all our usual stages, so we hope that many fans will come and enjoy it with us.

What is the meaning of the concert title?

Minhwan: Actually, for all these while, we have been showing a very friendly and cute image to our fans. From this time onwards, probably a little wilder image? Or rather, manly image. That was how we came up with the concert title "Men's Stories".

Jaejin: (Looking at Seunghyun and laughs) Is it the story of Seunghyun? Wild and like a man.

(All look at Seunghyun and laugh, while Seunghyun pinches Jaejin lightly.)

Removing the 'flowerboy' title and changing to 'men', would it be a challenge to the popularity you have obtained so far?

Jonghoon: Were we flowerboys? (laughs)

Jaejin: (points at all members except Jonghoon) All of us except Jonghoon. (laughs)

Jonghoon: We're not removing that image, but rather, adding a more manly feel, which we have not tried at all so far. For example, Seunghyun's wild image? (laughs)

In fact, you have not been receiving much recognition of your abilities due to your appearance, right?

Minhwan: We have always been quite regretful because of that, but we’re not so impatient now. We still have a long way to go, so we think that everything will go well if we make changes bit by bit. We believe that if we work hard, we will gain recognition someday.

The performing environment for a public show is not good. So were there any episodes (interesting things that happen) like, a broadcast incident?

Seunghyun: In any case, we do lots of synching during broadcast shows. Similar to lip-sync, there is hand-sync, in which music recorded (MR) is turned on and we move our hands accordingly just like we're playing the music. Therefore it's true that we're unable to let everyone listen to our live. So, we're having concerts often, as much as we can, to perform live for our fans.

Jaejin: The question is asking you to talk about episodes. Episodes! (all laugh)

Seunghyun: (embarrassed) There was once my guitar string broke during performance. And to make things worse, the guitar strap broke as well. I was at a loss so I put down my guitar, grabbed a mic and sang together with Hongki-hyung.

Wouldn’t the music continue to play even when you're not playing the guitar?

Jaejin: Exactly. The performance had to carry on. (laughs) How pitiful it looked I was looking at Seunghyun from the side and he placed his guitar down awkwardly. In fact, due to this, people are placing higher hopes at our concerts. Even though incidents happen during live stages, it is also the main challenge of performing live.

Do you feel like jumping around on the stage at broadcast shows like how you would on concert stages?

Jaejin: We can't jump around on stage during broadcast shows. The stage is small and we need to be conscious of the camera. However, during concerts, we move around on stage as much as we like, and perform our very best for the audience. That is the image of a band.

Wouldn't Minhwan be pitiful as he can only play drums at the back?

Minhwan: (laughs) It's all right. Now, I think that the coolest thing is to work hard behind everyone else without being seen.

Jonghoon: (looks at Minhwan) Not being seen at all is really a problem. (laughs)

Minhwan: So everyone please come to our concert with binoculars. You will really enjoy yourself fully at our concert then.

Jaejin: Why? Because Minhwan can be seen?

Minhwan: (laughs) Fans who sit at the back can’t see the front well, isn't it? Those who are not at the standing area should enjoy themselves too.

FT Island becomes ambassadors for Gangwon-Do Province.

Lee Hongki and Song Seunghyun, members of FT Island who gained lots of popularity in Korea and Japan, were at Gangwon-Do recently for a photoshoot to promote the province to Japanese tourists.

The two members introduced Gangwon-Do by experiencing the place themselves. They went to Kyungpo Beach, Chamsori Museum, rode on rail bikes as well as the beach train at Jungdong-jin, East Sea. The series of photoshoot by famous Japanese photographer, Shimokoshi Haruki, portrays the beauty and charm of Gangwon-Do.

Lee Hongki said that, “Having the duty of promoting Korea overseas, we hope that many tourists will come and visit Gangwon-Do.”

Oh Wonbin, former member of FT Island, will be participating in one of the tracks of “You’re Beautiful” OST, titled “Coming Down From The Sky“. It was said that Oh Wonbin volunteered to sing for the OST in support of his ex-fellow band mate, Lee Hongki.

There are many assumptions when this news was released. With earlier reasons saying that Oh Wonbin left the group due to disharmony between the members and him being singled out, his participation in the OST this time is creating lots of speculation.

Some netizens are making assumptions that, “Could it be that Oh Wonbin is returning to FT Island?” and “Is Oh Wonbin doing projects with FT Island or with the individual members?” Some also said that, if it is true that there is disharmony between the members, then it would be difficult for Oh Wonbin to participate in the OST to support Lee Hongki.

Lee Hongki laughed as he revealed that, “FT Island members cringed after watching the drama”.

At the filming set of SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful” on 13th afternoon, Lee Hongki said that, “I watched the first episode of the drama with our members. I was looking forward to it while feeling nervous at the same time. They read the script in advance so they’re anticipating it as well.”

The album will be a double release, splitting the project into "One Date" and "Two Date." Off the "One Date" album, the title track to be released will be "Lie". The song is about two tragic lovers, separating in agony due to the lies that pulled their love apart. To accompany the meaningful lyrics, a sweet melody from the piano will captivate the listeners' ears.

FT Island's Lee Hongki was joined by his fellow cast on the upcoming SBS drama "You're Beautiful" performing MV parodies of SNSD / Girls' Generation's "Tell Me Your Wish / Genie" as well as parodies of other hit-songs.

"You're Beautiful" has prepared a total of 7 MV's in all, which were filmed through 6 days and nights. The parody music videos will be used as a epilogue, being shown after the ending of each episode of "You're Beautiful," right before the preview scenes for the next episode. Here is the list of parodies they'll be performing: Seo Taiji and the Boy's "I Know", Roo'Ra's "Angel Who Lost A Wing", HOT's "Candy", DJ.DOC's "Run To You", Crying Nut's "Let's Ride A Horse", Fin.K.L's "Forever Love", and of course SNSD's "Tell Me Your Wish."

Park Shin Hye, Jang Geun Suk, Lee Hongki, Jung Yong Hwa, Bae Geu Rin, and Choi Soo Eun have all practiced the choreography hard and they will show off their dancing skills, as well as showcase different hairstyles for each MV. Lee Hongki, who will take SNSD Jessica's role in "Tell Me Your Wish", commented, "I started preparing before the filming of MV by looking at some of the videos." But that's not all... he'll be wearing skinny pants and 7cm high heels!

The leader of the People choreography team, Kim Jin Won, complimented them, saying, "They learned the choreography while also improvising it. They learned quite fast so I was able to teach them while also enjoying it myself."

SNSD's Tiffany is said to have sent a encouraging video message to the team, saying, "I was surprised because both Lee Hongki, who turned into ice princess Jessica, and Jang Geun Suk, who turned into Yuna was really pretty." "I am looking forward to the drama when it starts."

It will be curious to see which of the premiering drama's: SBS's "You're Beautiful," (premieres October 7th) KBS 2TV's "Iris" (premieres October 14th), and MBC's "Hero" (premieres November 18th) wins the competition, as they will all be going head-to-head as Wed-Thurs dramas.

Adding these little touches will surely bring more enjoyment to the viewers. I can't wait to see Lee Hongki and Jang Geun Suk, dressing into a SNSD! My list of "why-I-must-see-this-drama" just increased!

[Info] FT Island to Hold Surprise Event for Thai Primadonnas Prior to 2010 Thailand’s Concert

Following FT Island’s visit to Thailand in mid-2009 to launch their mini album, “Jump Up” (under Thailand’s latest Asian music-label, Tirawa Entertainment), Thai fans will be glad to know that their beloved princes, FT Island, are coming to see the fans again in 2009 for a surprise event, before their big Thailand concert in early 2010.

FT Island have already informed the fans in their previous Thailand visit in July this year, that they would be having a Thailand concert in October 2009.

However due to the group’s tight schedule, they regretfully had to postpone this plan until early next year instead.

Further information regarding both the 2009 surprise event and the 2010 Thailand concert will be released nearer to the date, in Tirawa Forums.

[News] 091007 FT Island Shows Support For Lee Hongki’s Drama Comeback

FT Island members Choi Jonghoon, Lee Jaejin and Choi Minhwan give their support to fellow member Lee Hongki, who is making a drama comeback.

In the drama “You’re Beautiful“, Lee Hongki plays the role of a British-Korean as well as a member of the idol band A.N.JELL.

Lee Hongki is returning to the drama scene after a period of 5 years. He was previously casted in KBS 2TV children drama “Magic Kid Masuri” in 2002, followed by EBS drama “There’s Light Left At The Tip Of My Fingernails” in 2004 and “Kkangsooni” in 2005.

In a recent interview with Newsen, FT Island members Choi Jonghoon, Lee Jaejin and Choi Minhwan said that, “Lady Luck is shining on Lee Hongki now. Though he’s busy, he sleeps and plays a lot. We hope that this drama will be a success for him. We watched the trailer earlier. Though some actions are really childish, the drama seems interesting.”

At the drama press conference held earlier, Lee Hongki also revealed that, “FT Island members are giving me lots of support. Whenever I have late night filmings, Minhwan will always send messages like ‘Work hard, hyung’ and ‘I love you’.”

FT Island will hold a fanmeeting in Japan, together with the release of their new Japanese single.

Their 3rd Japanese single titled “Raining” will be released on 21st October, followed by a 2nd anniversary celebration with Primadonna Japan at Tokyo Shinagawa Prince Hotel’s Stellar Ball on 25th October. There will be a mini live stage as well as a fanmeeting at the anniversary celebration event.

Their new love ballad “Raining“ features bassist Lee Jaejin and Lee Hongki’s sorrowful vocals. The single consists of 3 songs in total, including Japanese lyrics written by Lee Jaejin for the first time.

Starting its first airing on 7th October, SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful” includes parody music videos and one of which, requires Lee Hongki to transform into SNSD.

The main characters of “You’re Beautiful” challenged themselves in parodies of mega hits like Seo Taiji & Boys’ “I Know“, Roo’ra’s “Wingless Angel“, HOT’s “Candy“, DJ.DOC’s “Run To You“, Crying Nut’s “Let’s Ride A Horse“, Fin.K.L’s “Forever Love” and SNSD’s “Tell Me Your Wish“.

[News] 091006 “You’re Beautiful”’s OST Receives Attention Even Before Drama Airing

Also known as the second “Boys Over Flowers“, SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful“’s OST is already receiving lots of attention even before the airing of the drama.

Producer of “You’re Beautiful” released the song “Promise” from the OST as the background music in the drama’s official homepage (ps: turn down your volume) at 12pm on 6th October. Though it is not the full song that is being released, it attracted about 500 netizens to the homepage within a short period of time.

Netizens left many positive comments at the site, “The bright and cheerful vocals are making me excited. Hope that the OST could be released earlier”, “It’ll be good if we can hear all the songs from the OST soon”, “I’m getting excited and lookking forward to it. Hope that the viewer ratings for this drama will be high as well.”

As a comeback drama for FT Island’s Lee Hongki, band performance by Jang Geunsuk as well as double role play by Park Shinhye, this drama is already receiving lots of attention before its airing. With the release of the OST, the popularity is sure to rise.

“Promise” is a song that is sung by A.N.JELL in the drama. The one that is used as the background music in the drama’s official homepage is Lee Hongki’s version. There are plans to reveal Jang Geunsuk’s version as well.

Also, the song is obviously in Japanese, so either this maxi isn’t following the Korean-Japanese-English pattern, or Jaejin helped with the lyrics on the English track. Fun times.

FT Island’s Song Seunghyun makes his modelling debut.

FT Island’s magnae, Song Seunghyun, participated in a fashion show held at Ewha Women’s University on 28th last month. This event holds a deep meaning as he was specially invited by the students from the Clothing & Textiles Department.

Due to programme recording schedules, Song Seunghyun turned up few hours earlier at the fashion show venue for rehearsal and catwalk practice. He also received lots of guidance on catwalk from model-actor Hong Jonghyun and other professional models. Though he looked nervous on stage, his performance was satisfactory for a first-timer and the fashion show ended successfully.

Chuseok is approaching and FT Island members Choi Jonghoon, Lee Jaejin and Choi Minhwan reveal their future plans.

The 3 members of FT Island will release an album under the name “FT Triple” in October. A limited edition of FT Island’s repackage album also will be released at the same time, under a 1+1 promotion. The sub-group had a hard time thinking of their group name. They wanted to call themselves A3 initially because all 3 members have bloodtype A, however, they decided to use FT Triple instead as they wanted to retain the name “FT“.

The members said that it’s been a long time since they wore hanbok. Lee Jaejin said that, “Wearing hanbok makes you feel comfortable and your mood will naturally become good. We haven’t been spending Chuseok well for the past six years as we’re preparing for concerts during this period of time every year. This year as well, we are unable to go back home due to concert preparations, so we’ll be spending it in our dorm.”

Lee Jaejin also added that, “During Chuseok, I’d like to go to the countryside to get some fresh air and take a break. I also want to visit my grandfather’s grave. Being the eldest grandson, I ought to pay a visit but I’m unable to do so and I feel sorry about it. I used to go to public bathhouses with my father. Though it was awkward, the times were memorable.”

Choi Minhwan said, “My family is big. Really big. I haven’t been back to visit my relatives for the past 6 years. I wouldn’t be able to recognise them if they visit me at our concerts. During festive seasons, we will gather closely with our relatives and play games. The most memorable time is when we played Yut* together when I was still in elementary school.”

Choi Jonghoon said, “During festive seasons, I will eat, watch movies and go out with the other members. As we’re unable to visit our parents, they will bring us food instead and we’ll party in our dorm with the food they brought. I do not have much memories of Chuseok so spending Chuseok with our members are most memorable to me.”

The most popular dish among the 5 members is meat and vegetable skewer. The members said that, “We eat a lot on these special occasions as we do not have to the chance to do so usually. Even if we do not eat much, our parents will force us to eat. On festive seasons like this, our parents will all gather at our dorm and chat. They also complain that we’re too noisy.”

Choi Jonghoon, Lee Jaejin and Choi Minhwan also send Chuseok greetings to their fans. “During Chuseok, eat more and don’t get sick. F.T. Triple Sends Their Chuseok Greetings

We have been hit with a wave of Korean stars in the finest hanbok sending their greetings for the national holiday, Chuseok. Now it’s boy band F.T.Island’s turn. Sadly, Hongki and Song Seung Hyun are missing due to their schedules but we still got 3 of the cuties to pose for the pictures.

These three, Choi Jong Hoon, Choi Min Hwan, and Lee Jae Jin are also making a sub group called F.T.Triple. This group’s album will come out with F.T.Island’s repackaged album. They almost named themselves A3 because they all are blood A type but they went with the other option. They wanted to keep the F.T. name so they added Triple at the end of it to represent that it is a trio. Sound familiar? SS501’s sub group was called Triple S.

These three boys like all the other stars stated that it’s been a long time since they wore hanbok. Their usual costume consists of skinny jeans and stylish shirts on stage so no wonder the Korean traditional attire was absent from their lives. Lee Jae Jin said, “Now that I’m wearing hanbok, I feel really great. The past 6 years, I never got to really celebrate Chuseok because of concert preparations. Sadly, once again, I will have to give up going to see my family for Chuseok because of concert preparations.”

He continued and said, “I want to go to the countryside and relax with the fresh air. I also want to visit my grandfather’s grave. I feel responsible to visit his grave as the eldest son so I feel bad not going to see my family. I would always go to public bathhouses with my dad and though it was awkward, I think about spending time with him.”

Choi Min Hwan added, “I have a huge family. Since I haven’t gone to my hometown for 6 years, when they come to my concerts, I can not even recognize them. I used to play so many games with my family members on Chuseok expecially Yut-Game (traditional Korean game).”

Lastly, Choi Jong Hoon said, “When Chuseok comes around, I go to the movies, eat, and spend quality time with my members. Since I can’t visit my family, they come to me at my dorm to bring me food. With that food, we throw a party ourselves. I don’t have a specific Chuseok memory so the Chuseoks I have spent with my members are memorable.”

The members also made fun of their family by mentioning that when their families come to their dorm, they talk to so loud that the members have to tell their elders to quiet down.

To finish it off, they sent their greetings to fans. They said, “Eat a lot this Chuseok and don’t get sick. Don’t wait for us in front of our practice room, instead, spend time with your family. If you can, wear hanbok!”

Very sad to know it’s hard to see their family on Chuseok since many other stars are getting a short break and spending some time in their hometown.

[News] 090928 FT Island, Isolated In Philippines Due To Storm, Communication Cut Off

Idol band, FT Island, was isolated in the Philippines due to a storm.

FT Island left for Cebu, Philippines on 25th September for the filming of their new music video. On their way there, they met with a massive storm and were isolated in a critical situation.

On the following day after FT Island arrived in the Philippines, storm “Ketsana” slammed the Philippines and it was reported that as on 27th September, 72 people had either gone missing or dead and recorded a total of 250,000 victims. It was said to be the worst storm to hit the country in 40 years.

FT Island’s management company, F&C Music, tried contacting FT Island and their staff who are in Philippines to check on their safety but their local lines were unreachable.

The storm caused communication system to be cut off. Their management company got worried and impatient for the past two days trying to get in touch with them. Luckily, both sides managed to get in contact with each other late on 27th. Upon knowing that they are safe, their management heaved a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, it was also known that the area where FT Island is staying is not greatly affected by the storm.

Schedule for the filming of their music video was slightly delayed. They had plans for filming on aircrafts but it was aborted. It was originally planned to be a 4 days 3 nights filming but they had to rush the filming within 2 days through the night due to the storm. They plan to return on 28th after the filming.

On the other hand, FT Island’s vocal Lee Hongki is filming for SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful“.

Well, more like the other way around - FT Island has been marooned in the Philippines!

As many of our readers (especially those of you in Southeast Asia) know, tropical typhoon season is hitting the Philippines especially hard this year. In the past twenty-four hours, a combination of a recent storm and the subsequent flood waters has left over one hundred people dead or missing and 250,000 homeless.

As for FT Island, the quintet was stationed in Cebu on September 25 to film their latest music video; however, they were left isolated due to this sudden crisis which may be shaping up to be the worst storm in forty years.

Hearing this news, FT Island's company, FNC, called to see if anything was wrong, only to be met with no signal. Fortunately, the homebase finally made contact with the crew that afternoon and was able to breathe a sigh of relief with reports that everyone was safe.

The boys' schedules have not been significantly affected by the hurricane, and shooting will continue as planned. The aerial shooting, which was originally planned to be completed over four days & three nights has been squeezed into a tighter schedule of two days due to the hurricane. The crew is expected to return to Korea after twenty-eight days.

I have thoughts under here, but they are unimportant

Nice to see Jaejin in on two of the tracks, and I’m curious to know which languages they are. I am going to assume that It’s U is in Korean, because I have a hard time believing that they’d let the poor boy try to muddle through an English or Japanese track all by himself.

The teams are mostly the same people who worked on I Believe Myself. Miyakei and 大智 (Daichi) are the same lyricist/composer team on I Believe Myself and Shusui is the same gentleman who did TV Radio.

While I can find no information on OWL, Youwhich has arranged most of their Japan releases to date. It seems AI Entertainment is keeping the same team around, for better or worse.

Either way, I’m excited. Especially about Raining, since I really liked I Believe Myself, so another song from the same team shouldn’t disappoint. At least, I hope it won’t.

Sad not to see any of the boys composing here, though. Jonghoon did a wonderful job with Midnight Angel, and I like seeing the boys taking roles. But with Jaejin working on two of them, I had hardly complain. ^_^;

Ok. That’s enough from me. I’m just rattling my teeth now.

“Why do people think badly of singers going into acting?”

This question came from a 20-year-old young man.

FT Island’s vocal Lee Hongki is acting once again, after a period of 5 years.
He introduces himself as Jeremy, a British-Korean from a royal family, in the upcoming SBS drama “You’re Beautiful“.

In fact, Lee Hongki does not start out his acting path from an idol group. He is a singer who is making a comeback in his drama activies since 5 years ago.

He debuted in KBS 2TV children drama “Magic Kid Masuri” in 2002 and also acted in EBS “There’s Light Left At The Tip Of My Fingernails” in 2004, “Kkangsooni” in 2005 and thereafter from 2007 onwards, he participated in FT Island’s activities.

“SS501’s Kim Hyunjoong, DBSK’s Uknow Yunho, Big Bang’s TOP and other idol group singers are acting and singing at the same time, isn’t it?

But many people think little of it and are giving comments like, ‘So the idols are acting now’, ‘Why are they diverting their paths?’.
I don’t understand why it is positive that actors turn into singers and negative when it’s the other way round.”

Lee Hongki thinks that the mindset should be changed.

“Though fans already know that I started out as a child actor, others who did not know about it, hold a biased view against me. I want to change their mindset with my acting.”

Lee Hongki also sees fellow singer, Lim Changjung, as his role model.

“For the same situation, people do not hold biased views against Lim Changjung-sunbae. He receives recognition as a singer and also receives applause with his strong acting skills. I want to be like him, an all-rounder.”

The drama “You’re Beautiful“, which talks about the lives of an idol band and the love between the members, has a lot of similarities with the band, FT Island, which Lee Hongki is actually in.

“Our director also told me, ‘Lee Hongki, just be yourself’. So the character Jeremy portrays 70% of myself.
Also, in reality, I’m a vocalist. But in the drama, I’m a drummer. That’s the only difference. I learned the basics of playing the drum from our member, Minhwan.”

Lee Hongki also revealed that there are many similarities and he feels less burdened, “People around me are worried because I’m returning to acting once again. As I have only showed my acting skills as a child actor so far, I want to make a change this time round, so I’m feeling the burden as well. Nevertheless, I won’t try to change my image all at once but by doing it step-by-step. It’s never too late. That’s what I think.”

There are also many people who gave Lee Hongki their opinions. Besides his fans, his mother also gave views on Lee Hongki.

“When I was still a child actor, my mother even took on the role of being my manager. Everything was managed well by her.

After recordings, she would look at the monitor and say things like, “You have to change this. It will turn out to be like that, so listen to me”.

She comments on all these things and at the same time, giving me support.
This time round, she’s behind me as well.”

Unlike the dreamy feel of the earlier poster, this new poster sees the four members of A.N.JELL, Park Shin Hye, Jang Geun Suk, Lee Hongki (FT Island) and Jung Yong Hwa (CN Blue) dressed up in stylish chic outfits, like singers attending a year-end awards ceremony. Besides them, we also get a glimpse of the supporting cast including UEE who plays a superstar, Kim In Kwon who plays a manager (the loser in Haeundae) plus two other girls.

For those of you who haven’t been keeping up, A.N.JELL is the idol group that the entire drama will be based on. In fact, they are the top idol group, and since allkpop readers love their idol groups, I’m sure this drama will be a big hit with you all.

The first episode is set to air on October 7th, 2009.

[News] 090920 “You’re Beautiful” Mini Concert

Lee Hong-ki is mostly famous for being a member of the popular pop/rock band FT Island, but he’s looking forward to returning to acting, which he’ll do in SBS’s trendy idol-star drama You’re Beautiful [미남이시네요], his first drama gig in five years. (He has made cameo appearances on dramas and sitcoms, but his last drama role was in MBC’s 2004 series Freezing Point.)

Lee says that partly due to his membership in an idol group, he felt comfortable approaching his role as an upbeat character of an idol group: “The director, Hong Sung-chan, told me to just be as I usually am and to use the way we normally talk in our dialogue, so I didn’t feel a lot of pressure.”

The idol group within the drama is called A.N.JELL (which makes me cringe a little, but I suppose it’s not any worse than real band names like 2NE1). Lee Hong-ki’s character is named “Jeremy” and is a gyopo (Korean living abroad) from England. His father is an upper-class Englishman while his mother was once a famous model, and he grew up well-off.

Lee says his fellow FT Island bandmates are cheering him on, and are looking at his role with particular interest because they also have an interest in acting. He described the pull he feels to both being a singer and actor: “When I am performing as a singer, I feel a thrill standing onstage, and as I act, I feel affection for the television screen.”

[NEWS] FT Island’s “A3″ is not a piece of paper

To those who have been to, or have bought and watched the FT Island’s 2009 My First Dream Concert (DVD) in Japan (held earlier this year, in January 2009), would have known what it means by A3.

Yep, as written in the concert DVD Jacket, A3 is a mini band in FT Island, or a mini project band -if you prefer to call it that way-.

A3 is made up of FT Island’s Lee Jaejin (as bass and main vocal), Choi Jonghoon (as guitar) and Choi Minhwan (as drums).

The mini band was “launched” unofficially during the 2009 My First Dream concert, playing FT Island’s cheerful tunes like “Love Is…” and “FT vs. PRI”. They also had a string of instrument solo in between the songs, and the rest of the band (i.e. Minhwan and Jonghoon) also sang as sub-vocals for the performance.

Why A3 was created in the first place, was, to some levels, to help take up some singing time during the concert, so that lead singer, Lee Hongki, would not overstrain his voice.

(Hongki’s throat was having problems due to exhaustion, throughout December 2008 – January 2009, leading to several disappointing performances within that period –> But that’s another story altogether).

Why the name A3, is also another question.

Apparently the three members making up the mini band, have the same blood type (i.e. A), hence the name A3. Cute, yes? =P

I can’t help but notice how fast time flies, though…
The concert was at the beginning of the year, and you could clearly see how Jaejin (and the other two) were still uncomfortable singing without Hongki.

But after the 3rd album release recently, you can see they are now more carefree and confident with singing on stage. Obviously somebody has been taking their vocal lessons seriously….. heh. -I feel like a proud mother hen -__- -

Now, I don’t usually upload DVD cuts (because of obvious reasons), but I have good reason to do so this time, as I want to make a somewhat proper profile of the mini band in this blog.

Poster for SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful” is revealed.

“You’re Beautiful” poster features its 4 main leads, namely, Jang Geunsuk, Park Shinhye, Lee Hongki and Jung Yonghwa from the band A.N.JELL.

3 flowerboy members in the poster have long streaming mufflers round their necks and are seen soaring into the sky. This signifies the glorification of their idol popularity in the drama.

YG Ent is the top company netizens want to apply for to be singers

Netizens have picked YG Entertainment as the company they want to enter in as singer the most, and as the company they can trust the best.

A survey was done from 15th to 22nd September on community portal site DCInside on the question of “If you are a singer wannabe, which company do you want to enter the most and which company can you trust the most?” and YG Entertainment has came in #1 on the survey.

Find out the other entertainment companies voted on the survey.

Of the 5,503 votes, YG Entertainment got 1,456 votes (26.5%). YG Entertainment is set up by Yang Hyun Seok who was part of ‘Seo Taiji and Boys’ and is a company which has produced many great hiphop musicians and actors – Jinusean, 1TYM, Big Mama, WheeSung, Big Bang, 2NE1 etc.

And it is known that the artistes in the company are close to each other, having a very tight family. And the company had actresses like Park HanByul and Goo HyeSun.

SM Entertainment came in #2 with 1,193 votes (21.7%). Lee SooMan was also once a singer, and he had set up SM Entertainment grooming some of the biggest artistes of all time like H.O.T, S.E.S in the 1990s. SM Ent is also the company which had produced great fandom. They have a systematic training system in place, which had produced some of the biggest ‘Hallyu singers’ like BoA, Dong Bang Shin Ki, Super Junior and So Nyeo Shi Dae.

Finally FnC lets the rest of the boys out on shows. Shangyu, Mr. CEO~

This time, the adorable ones from FT Island (magnae Choi Minhwan and “middle son” Lee Jaejin), followed Park Hyoshin hyung to Jeju island for a trip, for the making of Hyoshin hyung’s 4th track in his new album (”Gift”), titled “Deja Vu”.

The self-professed “awkward” boys of FT Island followed Hyoshin hyung around in his nifty sports car, went horseback riding, took selcas at the beach, cycled around empty roads, enjoyed the beautiful sunset, went for dinner with piano-playing teddy bear, and peeked at a showering dongsaeng O_O.

For their first time out without the hyungs, I thought they did well, and not too awkward at all.
If they really want to continue in their idol path, I think they need to get out on more shows like these, so they can get more recognition too.

FT Island’s Lee Hongki will play double role at “You’re Beautiful” mini concert.

SBS drama “You’re Beautiful” will take over the airing slot of “Swallow The Sun“, starting 7th October. Prior to the airing of this drama, a mini concert will also be held at Melon-Ax Hall in Gwangjang-dong, Seoul at 5pm on 20th September. In this concert, Lee Hongki will be the drummer of the band “A.N.JELL” in the drama, and at the same time, the vocalist of FT Island.

Lee Hongki will put up performances with two different bands on stage. This mini concert will be included in the drama as part of the scenes of A.N.JELL’s concert. In order to make the scenes look realistic, about 1,000 fans were invited through a special event. Lee Hongki revealed that he received support from his fellow FT Island members for the upcoming SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful“. In this drama, Lee Hongki will play the role of “Jeremy“, a British-Korean member of the band “A.N.JELL“, whose father is from an English royal family and mother, a famous model. FT Island’s Lee Hongki displays his unusual friendship with actress, Choi Ran.

Lee Hongki is making his drama comeback after a period of 5 years, in the SBS Wed-Thu drama “You’re Beautiful“, which will start airing on 7th October. Lee Hongki said that, he has a cross-generation friendship with actress, Choi Ran, who is playing the role of his mother in the upcoming drama.

After filming the drama “Freezing Point” in 2004, Lee Hongki became a singer. It has been 5 years till now. Choi Ran acted as his mother in “Freezing Point” and they are coming together again to work for the new drama. They have also been keeping in touch with each other all this while.

In actual fact, Lee Hongki who’s born in 1990 and Choi Ran who’s born in 1960 have an age gap of 30 years. If the period of 30 years is considered as a generation, then the friendship between the both of them is a “cross-generation” one.

[NEWS] ANJELL mini concert

The new SBS drama “You Are Handsome” is planning on holding a mini-concert before its official unveiling. The star-studded cast consisting of Jang Geun Suk, Park Shin Hye, Jung Yong Ha and FT Island’s Lee Hong Ki are planning to unite as a project group under the name of Angel to give a special performance on September 20th.

In this drama, there is a scene in which the band Angel performs at a concert. So, by inviting netizens to be the guests at this special event, the production staff is hoping to create a sense of realism.

Angel’s mini-concert will be held at the AX Hall in Seoul with special guests FT Island, Might Mouth and 4Minute.

Ticket requests are currently being taken through the “You Are Handsome” website and will be accepted until the 16th. About 300 guests will be chosen for this exclusive event.

The first episode of “You Are Handsome” will air on the 7th.

Scenes of “A.N.JELL” in concert will be used in the drama and for this purpose, there is a surprise event in which netizens are invited to be the audience for this concert. Suntan or don't
Hongki: This year, i prefer suntanning more. My whole body except my arms are all very fair, so i got to get darker.
Seunghyun: I will tan! I'm naturally pretty dark, but i think getting darker would make me much more good looking.
Jaejin: I don't go tanning, because i get tanned easily. That's counted as tanning (laughs) Yea, so this year's schedule would be enough.
Minhwan: I don't go tanning either, in fact, i want to be fairer.
Jonghun: I prefer to be natural. (Wouldn't deliberately go for tanning)

Likes girls with fair skin or dark skin
Seunghyun: I like both! I think both are pretty good... eh, only I feel this way? (everyone laughed)
The rest: Of course fair skin girls!

Icy cold stuffs or hot and spicy stuffs
Minhwan: After eatting very hot and spicy stuffs and sweating it all out, then eating an icy cold ice cream is very refreshing! So i like both.
Jaejin: I choose both too. The feeling of eating ice cream after spicy stuffs is good.
Hongki: I will first eat very spicy stuff, or eat sheng chicken soup(?) then eat crushed ice. In Korea, our crushed ice will have toppings like fruits and ice cream, it's very nice.
Seunghyun: I would choose to eat very spicy stuffs, especially the spicy soup we usually drink.
Jonghun: I choose cold food. Because i like to eat them. During summer, I like eatting cold noodles and black bean soup noodles(?). It's really nice, you guys should give it a try.

Likes summer or hates summer
Seunghyun: I like I like! I like the pretty green colour during summer. Also, during summer i can wear my favourite short sleeves.
Jaejin: I like and hate summer. Though summer is very warm, and the sun can be very scorching, but i like the view of the seaside during summer. Because there will be a lot of celebrations and activities, and I'm really attracted to this kind of vibrant and lively summer.
Minhwan: I don't like summers, I tend to have higher body temperature and sweat easily, summer cause me sweat a lot.
Hongki: Summer is very warm and I don't like sweating, so i don't really like.
Jonghun: I don't like when the weather in summer gets humid.

Finish summer holidays work at once or do it slowly
Minhwan: Finish it first! Only when i finish my work then i can play and enjoy myself.
Jonghun: I'm a very impatient person, so no matter what, i will finish my work before going out to play.
Hongki: I will not do any!
Seunghyun: I will have a lot of determination to finish the work but halfway through i will give up, so I've never once finished my summer holidays work.
Jaejin: I will wait till the last day and work hard to finish up everything.

Outdoor live or Indoor live performances
All: Outdoor of course!
Jonghun: Every year, Korea will have outdoor live performances, called the Pentaport Rock Festival. This is currently the most popular outdoor performance i guess.
Hongki: And also Jarasum International Jazz Festival. This music festival was started a few years ago only. Of course, as a band, FTIsland would want to participate in events like that.

Likes summer celebrations or Don't like summer celebrations
All: We like! We like!
Hongki: In Korea, you just have to make a trip down to the villages and you will experience many summer celebrations there. This time, we got invited to participate in Bukkok Hawaii Summer Festival. And previously the 郁金香 festival(?) and Traditional cake festival(?). They are all very fun! (laughs)
Jonghun: Also, crab festival(?) and salted fish festival(?) (both of them broke into laughter)
Hongki: When we attend such festivals, the organisers would give us lots of freebies. All in all, we love summer festivals celebrations.

Seaside or camping
Hongki: Jaejin likes seaside with lots of girls in birthday suits, it is his hobby!
Jaejin: Is skills! HAHAHHA!
Hongki: Alright, I'm just joking. I like going to the seaside, being by the seaside is better than being in the sea.
Jaejin: I like going to the seaside too! I like dipping myself in the pool, I feel very happy.
Jonghun: Me too! Playing with crackers and playing with girls... (laughs)
Hongki: Jaejin also like playing with girls most right? right?!
Jaejin: Aiya! You're irritating! (laughs)
Minhwan: I like camping on the mountains. The view on the mountain top must be veyr pretty.
Seunghyun: I also like camping, went with my family a few times before. Having a BBQ after pitching the tent, swimming in the streams. The water in the valleys are very refreshing, it's very fun. Minhwan, let's go together next time!
